2024 Tournament Rules & Regulations

TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME THROUGH THE COMPLETION OF THE REGISTRATION ON Friday, Oct 4, 2023. ANGLERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR STAYING CURRENT ON ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS THROUGH THE COMPLETION OF THE TOURNAMENT ITSELF. ANY UPDATES WILL BE SENT TO THE TEAM CAPTAIN’S EMAIL ADDRESS AND CELL # ON FILE.

1. Registration is mandatory for each registered Team. At least one member from each team must check in Friday between 5 PM and 8 PM at Topwater.  You can elect to register early if you are not able to come to Topwater on Friday.  Come to Jet Aviation, 8620 W Monroe Rd., Houston, TX 77061, Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM.  Please call in advance if you elect to come early for your weigh-in bags and to register.  This will ensure that Lacie or Alberto will be on-site.  

2. The rules may be altered at any time and will be communicated to each team’s Captain.

3. This is an Angler Tournament. All anglers must be paid and registered prior to 8 PM Friday, October 4, 2024.  

4. Eligible Species: Flounder, Trout, and Redfish. 

5. Boundaries for the tournament will be the Texas Coast.

6. Fishing starts at First Light on Saturday. No lines in the water prior to this time.

7. All fishing and angling methods must comply with current Federal, State, and U.S.C.G.     safety and fishing Regulations.

8. Fish must be caught by hook and line the day they are weighed in. No fish may be given to or accepted by another team.

9.  Non-Guided Teams will consist of up to (4) anglers per boat. 

10.  Guided Teams will consist of up to (4) anglers per boat. The guide is permitted to fish and count toward the team’s scoring fish. 

11. All Teams must declare “Guided” or “Non-Guided” by 8 PM Friday, October 4, 2024.

12. All fish will be weighed in at Topwater & may be brought in by boat or car, on ice, or alive. Weigh In bags will be provided to each team.

13. Tournament weigh-in opens at 1pm.   Anglers must be in line by 1:00 pm to be eligible to weigh fish.

14. Any fish being weighed in containing lead or any other foreign matter will be subject to disqualification as determined by the weighmaster. All fish need to be properly cared for.

15. Tie – In the event of a tie, the total length will be the tie-breaker.

16.  No rotten or mutilated fish will be weighed.

17.  Organizers are not responsible for any accident, injury, loss, damage, or theft to any property. Please be careful and watch out for each other.

18. The Honor System applies throughout the entire tournament.

19. If there should be a dispute of any kind, the decision of the Tournament Director will be final.  

20. It is up to the discretion of the registered angler to determine whether his or her craft (if fishing from boat) is seaworthy for existing sea conditions. Participants are encouraged to keep abreast of any marine or weather warnings.

21. The Tournament Committee encourages the live release of all fish not needed for the tournament.

22. All decisions of the tournament committee and weighmaster are final.

23. There will be 2 Divisions to determine the winners: Guided and Non-Guided.

24. First, Second, and Third place teams will receive trophies in each division determined by total stringer weight.

25. Heaviest Stringer will consist of no more than (5) fish total, any combination of Trout and Redfish, but the total may only contain two Slot Redfish (20” to 28”) and only one Trout over 25” per team allowed in each stringer. For example, five (5) Trout can be weighed in; or four (4) Trout and one slot Redfish; or three (3) Trout and two Slot Redfish.

26. Individual Awards will be given to Overall Heaviest slot Redfish, Trout, and Heaviest Flounder.

27. Fish entered into the Individual Award category CAN BE part of your team stringer.

28. Awards Ceremony will be 1 hour after the weigh-in on October 5, 2024 at Topwater. Estimated time is 2 PM.
